Tech Tip Jambalaya

This month's tech tip offers a cornucopia of handy features. For novices in the audience, we'll show you the most effective ways to interact with 3D models in Alibre Design. Our experienced users can look forward to a new 3D sketch tool that will premier with Alibre Design, version 12.1. Alibre Design 12.1 and Alibre CAM 2.0 are due to be released soon. The contents are provided in short, animated screen captures. So sit back, put your feet up, et laissez les bons temps rouler!

"Projecting" 3D sketches from edges

Version 12.1 will include a new tool for creating 3D sketches. The Project to sketch tool in 3D sketch mode allows you to convert edges of 3D models into 3D sketch figures. This tool has important implications for some types of machining in Alibre CAM 2.0. This new tool also allows you to create inter-design sweeps for part models created in a top-down manner (within assemblies). Weldments can be modeled much more easily using this technique.
