Now Available: Alibre Design for Rhino Plug-In
The Alibre Design for Rhino plug-in* makes Alibre Design the ideal companion solid modeling software for Rhino users. The plug-in allows solid models created in Alibre Design to be inserted into Rhino with an associative link. Any changes made to the solid model in Alibre Design are transferred via the plug-in to the existing file in Rhino.
This software combination is ideal for design tasks that require surface modeling capabilities for complex geometry creation as well as parametric solid modeling capabilities for mechanical component design and manufacturing. A few common examples include a consumer product with a stylized shell containing mechanical components such as sheet metal parts, motors, brackets, etc., or a boat hull with internal structures and components.
*Demo or licensed seats of Rhinoceros 3.0 SR3c AND Alibre Design 8.2 or later are required to use the plug-in.
Native Rhino .3DM Support
Alibre Design supports the native Rhino file format as well. Rhino surfaces and models can be opened in Alibre Design and used to create and modify solid models.
The following list represents just some of the tasks that can be accomplished in Alibre Design using imported Rhino files:
- Create extrusions and swept features using Rhino surfaces as limiting geometry
- Trim existing solid bodies with imported Rhino surfaces
- Thicken an imported Rhino surface into a solid body enabling additional solid modeling operations to be performed
- Define reference geometry (lines, arcs, etc.) using imported Rhino surfaces
- Constrain assembly components using Rhino files
The uninhibited free-form 3D surface modeling capability of Rhino combined with the feature-based parametric solid modeling and 2D drafting capability of Alibre Design provide the flexibility and functionality to create any type of geometry for design and manufacturing.
