Customer Story

Collin Dinsmoor, Engineer

I've been using SolidWorks for more than two years. I've been thinking about purchasing a copy of Solidworks or ProE to be more productive on some personal projects I have been putting off. I was intrigued by the price of Alibre Design, because I couldn't easily justify the 10X price of SolidWorks.

I was concerned that Alibre Design was only some kind of collaborative tool. I was just going to give it the free trial, but after about one to two days of tinkering, I knew I could indeed justify keeping this tool. Alibre Design is easy to learn: I always test out new CAD systems by modeling a coffee mug, as it has extrudes, cuts (or shells) and a sweep (and fillets if you want to dress it up). I was able in a short time -- without any reading, study, etc. -- to execute this learner project, basically just going through the steps as I would in Solidworks or ProE. The icons in Alibre Design are fairly explanatory and the process is as you would expect with a parametric modeler. The good news is I've already nearly completed one stage of design development on a project I was working on and have a smaller project complete.

All in all I'd say you have a comprehensive array of features. I understand that you are working on another release and I can't wait to see it. Keep up the good work. I'm quite happy with what I see so far.
