In This Issue T-Shirt Contest

Alibre Tees for the Win has been wonderfully successful in letting our customers show off the designs they make. Currently at 388 members, we've seen around 650 photos of products our users are making. The designs range from the structural steel layout of a church to machines that turn garbage into energy.

We want to ramp up submissions even further and we're pleased to announce our T-shirt giveaway. For the first 100 new designs that are posted, we'll send you a spiffy Alibre T-shirt. What's a "new" design? Anything that hasn't been posted before. Be sure to make a new Alibre Project for each of your designs (don't post all your stuff in one album). Once we reach 100 new designs, we'll begin sending out the T-shirts.

This giveaway is limited to residents of the lower 48 states in the United States. (Sorry, shipping gets crazy), and there is a limit of 1 t-shirt per person.

Alibre Design 2011 Release Plans

We're sooo close. We're wrapping up the final stages of our release and hope to have Alibre Design 2011 shipping next week. Alibre Design 2011 represents one of the biggest steps the product has taken in a release cycle. Native 64-bit, code-base change, great new tools. The beta program is over and was the biggest in our history. In short, we're very excited. Keep your ear to the ground for updates coming out shortly letting you know about the availability and upgrade instructions.

Gadget Freak: Toy Machine Gun Zaps Pests

Here's a little extra content provided courtesy of Design News.

Do neighborhood animals dig up your flower beds or get into your trash? Rick Prescott created a computer-controlled "machine gun" to help deter local pests, including the two-footed kind that invade work cubes. Rick mated an infrared sensor with a Nerf-brand gun that shoots spongy "bullets" to create the Infrared-Seeking Sentinel. An Atmega168 microcontroller tracks a heat source and unleashes either a single shot or a fury of automatic fire. Zap, zap, zap. Take that, Mr. Dog.
