    3D printing designs with lettering/numbers

I think you understand the concept of splitting the model in Orca. However if you export a step or sla model from Adam3d it won’t split because it’s all one solid. Adam3d isn’t great for lettering however…. Try assembling multiple shapes in the assembly section of Adam3d and export it as a...

Alibre crashes when I try to export .stl file

My guess is that the computer you’re using is having issues. I’d look at performance metrics when you run that command and see if something is maxed out

Achieving "smoother" results for 3d printing

I have a Bambu Lab PS1 to either Bambu Studio or Orca and almost always use STEP from Adam 3d. I would only use STL if the geometry gets messed up (once that I could think of). I don’t think your slicer could cause flats on cylinders. I have always found that with these printers what you...

Tips for 3d printing downward facing counterbores, horizontal holes and integral supports.

Ok @Ken226 after commenting I realized what you were saying while walking thru a grocery store. So I tried it and it worked very well. Slightly better than using support material. Good tip. Basically a counterbore with a hole forces the unsupported material to go around the hole. However...

Tips for 3d printing downward facing counterbores, horizontal holes and integral supports.

I don’t understand how the post above would help to support that hex shape. Also I don’t know how adjusting cooling fan speeds would help in a high speed print. I think all entire subject is about how to encourage the slicer to bridge instead of printing in air. To bridge from the sides...

Tips for 3d printing downward facing counterbores, horizontal holes and integral supports.

First off I think its great when someone offers a suggestion that involves the design software and not just the slicer software like in Bambu Lab forum. This is an interesting suggestion, so I thought I'd give it a try. the worst overhang I can think of is a counterbore for a 1/2" hex with...

MeshCAM for 3D Printing or other software

Yes that looks like the perfect solution for this discussion, less the Meshcam question. I'll have to start using this from now on. Thanks for pointing that out.

MeshCAM for 3D Printing or other software

So if you’re trying to point out how poorly Alibre loads SVG and DXF files, we know that and these posts won’t help. I tried the same thing before. I haven’t seen any improvement over the years and only assume that it’s the fact that I’m using the hobby package? Again give Tinkercad a look...

MeshCAM for 3D Printing or other software

two color is no problem. you import SVG into Alibre (it takes a while) then extrude a millimeter or so. Then export it into BL Studio. then add a primitive that covers the logo. make it thin. merge objects, color the design in black and primitive in white. make sure the design is the...

MeshCAM for 3D Printing or other software

I have Alibre Atom 3D and don't find it useful for logos. Aligning letters in the assembly tool is tedious. maybe better Alibre versions solved this? the smoothest program is Fusion where it creates a STL model with all the object inside of it. I'm not a fan of fusion for other reasons...

Design Acme nut using McMaster-Carr Step file

Thanks David. i haven't messed with the equation editor because it really doesn't suit the one off things I'm creating with the package. adjusting the pitch based on the starts would be cool but when you manually and get it wrong its obvious. The cross section view is very helpful also...

Design Acme nut using McMaster-Carr Step file

So this is continuation of another thread were I was mistaken about Atom3D's ability to load 3D models. At first It appeared that about all you could do is select features on the model and add or subtract to it. my goal is to extract the geometry and use that on a new design. In this...

    Modify a STEP file?

Adam3d only imports 2d formats into a sketch. The reason it won’t import 3d is because it can’t be modified I still recommend just making the part from scratch.

    Modify a STEP file?

Atom3d doesn’t allow you to import 3d models. It also has no way to modify them because it doesn’t have Boolean operations. It would be very easy to just build a 1/4-20 by 1” socket head cap screw from scratch. The tricky part is the thread, but it’s really easy once you know how to do it.

    Random Assembly

I’ve used Adam3d for a couple years and find it to work great for single components. The only time I found the assembly feature to be a benefit is when I needed to check out internal thread fit up by looking at the cross section. So you can assemble stuff but what do you do next? What can you...

    Newbie question - 3D printed multi-color parts

That why I find it tedious in Atom3d to insert text in an object…. it doesn’t do Boolean operations.

Working on Threads, Actual Threaded Parts, with Alibre Atom3D and Printing Them!

I have Atom3d and use it all the time to create threads. I find the need to create nonstandard stuff. Meaning no standard thread size. For example I needed a cap on the drain of a water chiller. Male threads are easy because you can measure the diameter. Takes me a couple tries to get...

    Multi-material printing

I agree with Mike on how handy it is to add colored labels in parts. I wouldn’t want to put color inside a part due to the long print time. I guess that wouldn’t be the case with the XL However it’s a pain to assemble lettering in Alibre (at least with my version). I would do that in the...
