Can you chamfer sheet metal edge?

I have tried multiple approaches at creating a 45° chamfer along the two top long edges of this simple sheet metal part. Methods include creating base part by basic tab method, contour flange method and convert to sheet metal. Adding chamfer with chamfer tool (edges not selectable in SM space) and extruding cut results in a square edge.

Is this even possible?

The sheet metal chamfer tool will only chamfer corners. Note that it is called "Corner Chamfer" the one on the Model tab is "Edge Chamfer".

Like @WillB says, use the Part modeling chamfer tool.

The Part Modelling Tab is optional in Sheet Metal workspace because use of tools on it can prevent flattening of the sheet metal part. So the tools on that tab should be used with care, and mindful of the potential to break things.

I have found that as long as you don't cut into any bend of your sheet metal part it will still flatten. That said, if Alibre had a decent set of sheet metal tools, like for louvers and lances, using Part modeling tools would be unnecessary and those features could likely be accomplished with fewer steps.
