Hello moyesboy. >formally know as alibrerocks here in the full AD now. You most likely are correct but I have used for a short while another 3D cad package that was about the same price as AD and it was not nearly as good. So it does count on what you come from on how you feel about Alibre.

I vote AD as #1 for it's price range. If you want or need more then you must pay a lot more. But if you don't need the extras then alibre rocks.

Hello moyesboy,

Tim >formally know as alibrerocks in ADX forum here in the full AD now. You most likely are correct but I have used for a very short while another 3D cad package that was about the same price as AD and it was not nearly as good. So it does count on what you come from on how you feel about Alibre.

I vote AD as #1 for it's price range. If you want or need more then you must pay a lot more. But if you don't need the big extras then alibre rocks. I really like the 2D from 3D abilities and I hope to slow down the use of autocad in my designs. For me I am just a noob in 3D so I have only just begun to grasp the whole of it. I would not have had the time (least ways the money) to learn the larger 3D packages but for now Alibre does all I need and more.

A couple of comments that might help (or not!)

Getting the right package for what you are designing is vital, if you only design turned parts, surfacing functions, sheet metal and mold design are really not relevant.

Don't confuse easy with good, I've found that many of the flash wizards, specific tools and obscure functions (SW in particular) can create more problems than they solve.

Find out about stability, this is probably my biggest single bugbear.

MDT is my favorite package for MY use, mainly because of it's exceptional spreadsheet functions.
