What's new

Home Window Requests

I sometimes revision my design and save-as, but the recent files list thumbnails will look the same when the revisions are minor. I've recently started suppressing the design to save the old version just to make the thumbnail of the older version be clearly identifiable.

I would love to have a way to maintain different workspaces -- so if I'm working on client X projects and then client Y projects, I can stash/recall different set of file histories.

Right now, Assemblies, and parts within those assemblies appear under recent files. It would be nice if things were a bit more organized, and parts were nested within their parent assemblies. Same with Drawings and Sheetmetal designs generated from parts.

If that is too much, then at least something to let you know what a part's parent assembly is.
I work on different projects. It would be nice to have a kind of grouping of recent files. Like main assembly first and sub-assembly etc..It could be like the grouping of icons in the Windows 11 start menu.

Hey folks, we are reimagineering the Home Window, or at least considering it as we port it to the new UI framework.

Any wishlists?
This dose’t exactly have the Home Screen in mind but another suggestion. When using the linear pattern if some way when you entered the number of items to repeat and the distance apart it would have a box to show the total distance covered.

... or to be able to select the start and end (or total distance) and how many repeats and it works the spacing out for you ... would be nice! It currently works like this for radial patterns (you enter the number of repeats to fit into a 360 degree space), but not for linear patterns.

I made several scripts that work this way with 3Dsketches. 3D splines and the 3Dsketch environment need a performance overhaul and control point handling. I was able to get them to work but trying to edit them after the fact destroyed the sketch making them uneditable. I shared a tool I made during this exercise.

 If it doesn't have anything to do with the Home window then this question and all its replies should have been entered in a separate post and likely in the Feedback section. Instead of hijacking the thread about redoing the Home window.

Maybe someone can move it to a more proper place.

Mistakenly put the request in the wrong location here:

If that is too much, then at least something to let you know what a part's parent assembly is.
So a part can live in many assemblies, and even sub assemblies. How would we pick what you want to see? Even showing you a list at all requires doing a where used search, which is a PDM function and would probably not be super lightweight enough for the home window.

The recent files should be in a scroll box, meaning being able to have as many objects there are. Scrollbars should allow to go through them.
And the view of the parts should be user definable. Such that I can assign a view in the editor to become the thumbnail for the overview.

Thanks for considering

So, you want a Windows File Explorer in the Home window.

Maybe an easier way to improve organization is switching between file type? If I could view just my 8 most recent assemblies (or 8 most recent parts etc) that would make it easier to jump between projects. It seams like any real improvement would need PDM data.

I had noticed that Alibre's webpage for Pricing has changed. Upon clicking the "Learn More" link for Atom3D,
and watching the video, the toolbars are changed and regrouped as well as different icons have been introduced.
As shown, my menu bars are quite different than the ones in the video. (I do have the latest version of Atom3D).
Also when the program is opened, the program title bar has omitted the version tag and just displays ATOM3D.
Could this be a pre-release version of the upcoming new release?
As far as I know, Atom3D users can't customize the UI.

That is an old video, not a new one. Though it is fun to compare old vs new side by side from time to time :D
