How to exclude from BOM?

I am still getting used to how Alibre works in the context of top-down design. One method I am using is to create a "Design Criteria" model as I call it that has some of the main features for a given assy. As such, I create a part with the basic features, that I can then link to other parts so as to maintain common parametric features (think of a common plane to drive an extrude to as one example). That's all fine (though I really wish you could use planes and sketches for this, not just geometry), but when it comes time to create a BOM, that extra part is of course included. Is there a way to exclude this part from the BOM, aside from just using the Hide Row? The Hide Row I suppose would work, but seems like a clumsy approach. In NX you can toggle parts to be considered "Reference Only" to avoid this very issue. It is just a bit of metadata, wondering if Alibre offers this or could offer it?
 
Suppressing the part in the assembly will get it to stay off of the bill of materials, otherwise delete / hide row is the option. I like this feature idea!

Oh I wish I had the time to type out all the ways I use this approach in my work (referring to how OP references things in assemblies). It's the one thing preventing me from using Alibre for my actual job along with hobby stuff.
