How to simplify/reduce size of a CAD File

Hello,

I am looking for a way to reduce the file size of a CAD file to improve on the loading speed of my drawings.
I have an assembly file of a machine (an oven in this case) , and I need to "dumb it down" to use in layout designs of the entire equipment line.

In the equipment layout I don't care about the interior design and mechanics of the oven, I only want the exterior shape.
So.. I exported my assembly as a SAT to combine all the files as a single file, imported to Alibre and find it is still much too complex to load in a timely manner.
I still have a 160,000 KB file with thousands of faces. Is there any way to just export the exterior "shell" with no interior detail?

Any tips or ideas appreciated. Thanks.

I would do an assembly boolean on all the exterior parts. This will then be saved as a separate part which can then be deleted from the assembly

I have tried that however the assembly Boolean fails, for what ever reason... I think it is from the imported hardware models in my drawing.
I'm assuming exporting as a SAT file does the same thing?
