Stefan, that's a good suggestion. I just tried this method and, after some experimenting, found that the correct measurement is really dependent on the order you select the entities. Once you understand the order that the measure tool is adding up the distance values it makes sense.

Maybe this could be added to the Help Manual with an explanation of how the measure tool is evaluating the selected geometry to arrive at the correct measurement.

Can we have some more examples of 'measuring tool just can't do it' cases? Examples so far are easily handled with reference geometry additions.
