Parts' dependency on assembly

Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask if there was a possibility of interrupting the dependence between the parts and the assembly that contains them.
When I start editing a part it become the “child” of the assembly and for instance I can’t duplicate the part to introduce a little variationon on that. I hope I explained myself.
Thank you everyone!

Sounds like you are editing the part from the assembly. Instead, close the assembly then open the part and 'Save As' to a new file name - edit as required to produce your slight variation. and save it.

Do not be tempted to copy file in File Explorer - that will lead to major problems.

Dear David, exactly what I mean. But while i am making the assembly is a bit tedious close and open each time.
Thank you the same.

Well you can open the part file separately whilst the assembly is open - but TAKE CARE. There will be 2 copies of the same file loaded into memory and the last one to save will win.

If just doing a Save As, you should be OK.

I would consider using configurations, in some cases it is very useful tool. Needs a little bit studying to understand how it works (with all locks etc). Just make sure when opening complex assemblies that configurations are shown correctly. Sometimes you need to dig into subassembly to make ist configuration to show correctly in main assembly. But powerful tool in some cases.

Of course, nice tip too! I use it to change the different length of screws for instance..
I had a very old version of Alibre v22, maybe now is different, but i can’t change configuration in a drawing sheet…
