Please ignore Keyboard Shortcuts during Rename operation

I don't know if this has ever bothered anyone else, but it would be a great idea if the keyboard shortcuts are ignored during a rename operation in the designer.

For example, I have the i key assigned to call up the Physical Properties dialog or the C key to sketch a Circle. This is all nice, but when you rename something that needs an 'i' in the name it invokes the Physical Properties dialog while typing. I cannot conceive any purpose to intercept keyboard shortcuts during a rename operation.

I know I can add an ALT or Shift to qualify a shortcut, but then why allow creating non qualified keyboard shortcuts if they are surely going to conflict with the rename operation? This behavior does not manifest with the Text Figure Dialog, the same behavior should exist with the Rename operation.

Thanks

I have just tested renaming a Sketch and a Feature in the Design Explorer and it worked fine, my keyboard has every key as a shortcut! Have I misunderstood you?

In my case, I have 3 and 4 used to toggle visibilty of hidden lines and If I type 3 or 4 in a dimension using the keyboard (not the keypad) it will try to toggle line visibility. Also I have C and Q and I and many others redefined and when ever I try to rename anything either the letter does not appear (because it cannot invoke the feature in the current context) or a dialog will appear that is associated to the key shortcut.

It happens in v27 and v28 for me.

Odd that it does not happen for you.

OK, after much playing around, a restart of Alibre solved the issue. It seems to be a bug in that (I don't know how) after a while of sketching, the shortcuts in general start to act 'weird'. Certain shortcuts no longer work and the behavior I explained above starts to occur. Sometimes closing the part is enough, other times restarting Alibre is needed. I should open a ticket, but can't reproduce it reliably yet. I have to figure out what sequence of events is occurring (or I am doing) to invoke this 'instability' in the shortcut routines.

I'll try to keep track of it.

Thanks for your input on trying it out.

I've notice this also once in a while. I thought I had mistyped something when it first happened but after trying to rename a feature a second time it definitely went of on a tangent. I haven't noticed it as much in v28, yet, but am keeping a watch on it. If I remember, I try to name DE features in the dialog when it is open, or just edit them and rename in the label field.

It's too bad Alibre hasn't implemented the F2 key for renaming DE items, that would be nice.

Aye to that, I've brought it up in the New UI thread, let's hope one day it will be possible. It's such a trivial thing to them to do.
