question about configurations, making a change in a part in an assembly

in an assembly I have 4 configurations. I need to make a change to a part that is in a subassembly and I want the change reflected in all 4 configurations.
do I go to that edit that part by itself and not in the assembly ? if I made the change in the assembly, "Edit Here" then it would only change in the configuration that was active?

Just looked at your web site.
Very nice looking lures.
I've not seen them in the UK so have posted the link on our fishing club forum.
I don't get out so much these days but some of my chums may be interested.

Thank you.
Most of the lures I design in Alibre are not on my website.
the designs are used to make production molds so we can mass produce the lures.
a lot of the lures are organic in shape and sometimes are a real challenge to draw in Alibre, so I have Rhino for that, but there are a lot of things I can't draw in Rhino and have to use Alibre or a combonation of both programs to get a design done.

If you edit the part either by itself (with the assembly closed) I believe the changes will show up in all configurations of the assembly. Also, if you do an edit here, I believe it will also have the same affect. I only say I believe because I'm not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure I've done exactly what you're describing, using either option and had all changes show up in all configurations in the assembly.

In assembly I select a part to "edit" when I edit the part i change a pipe length from 36 inchs to 12 inches, then I create a new configuration in the part. then when I go back to the assembly, the new configuation of the pipe switches back to the original. do I need to make a new assembly configuration before I edit the part and will it keep the new change in the part in the assembly?
