Question about Configurations

I am spinning my wheels here and not getting the results I want so time to ask.
I have an assy I want to use configs for component visibility ONLY, no constraint changes or part substitutions just like sreps from my CREO experience. Very much like a multi-floor building wanting to only see the items on each specific floor.
Which radio buttons should be checked to accomplish this on the configs?
I use the default config as a master with everything ON then use that as the "copy from" config then use the configs in a subassembly and suppress what else in the top assembly I don't want shown.
Is suppression the right tool or should I use hide?

There is no option that is 100% right.

Suppressing parts will stop other things from being fully constrained.

Hide only applies at that 3D view level. All the parts will still show in the drawing views, BOM, weight,...

I hope one day Alibre can implement a 3rd option that marks parts as reference only which then would keep constraints but not show them on the drawing views, BOM, weight...

Or they could add the ability to move things into subassemblies on the fly.

Thanks, at least glad it wasn't me... this time.

You can also Hide parts while in a drawing. Expand the sheet in the Drawing DE and navigate to the view that has the assembly, Then expand the assembly, find the part/item and Right click on it and select either Hide of Hide in all views. I don't think it will be removed from the BoM though.

If I go through that will the parts come back if the views are reprojected? I can try that but it doesn't help me in the design process for a work in progress

If just about visibility in the 3D model - I would only set the configuration lock for Part/Subassembly Hiding, and leave all the other locks off.

If the 2D drawing has to be influenced then use only the lock for Part/Subassembly Suppression. Consider also adding the lock for constraint suppression - so you can suppress any constraints which fail when parts are suppressed.

The problem usually isn't that constraints fail when items are suppressed - constraints to suppressed items simply "disappear" along with the suppressed items - so the parts/subassemblies left may no longer be fully constrained.
