How would you simulate this movement?

What I am after is to see if the gear has the correct tooth pitch.

I have used the Rack and Pinion constraint. By adjusting the pitch diameter value you can slow down or speed up the rotation of the gear.

Don't forget about reference geometry of the parts. They can be used in constraints.

Hmmm, maybe it's time to upgrade.

Will have a look in the hobby account and see if there will be an upgrade soon, running without a service agreement right now.

Every version number since v21 has Gear, Screw, and Rack & Pinion constraints already, but these mechanical constraints are only available on the Expert level product. Here's a link to the V25 help about rack and pinion:
