STL Export - Size Problem

I’m using netfabb Studio Basic 4.9 to check my stl files before uploading to an RP service (Shapeways).

When I open the stl file it is not the size of the model as designed. It shows X = 0.69” Y = 0.17” Z = 3.42”

The model sizes should be X = 1.752” Y = 0.439” Z = 8.675”.

Can you shed some light on what is going on with the Alibre STL export? The STL system settings are not very clear on sizing the stl to be exported.

All help will be greatly appreciated..

I dont have Alibre on this laptop so I cannot load your parts (see other post* :D ) , but the difference between the sets of numbers is close to 1 : 2.54 (1.752/.69 =2.5391) which is suspiciously close to the the number of centemeters in an inch.

Look for settings that might affect this.

There are no units defined in STL files. Alibre uses the units the part was designed in, so if you designed it in centimeters then the STL should be in centimeters.

You can use my AD Assembly Exporter to export STLs from an assembly and it has an option to force the units to millimeters.
