v1.2 not adding or updating at all when I try that - also when I load the Standard File the tab which should be for Metric Coarse has a blank name.
Could v1.2 be confused by the file copies made by v1 ? Do I just delete the copies to get it to perform its 'first run' again?

OK - tried deleting the Standard - then got this error.
ThreadEditor1.2.jpg

Fixed that by also deleting the .bak file. Still blank tab for Metric Coarse.

Have reverted to v1 for the time being.

Lew, there is no need to uninstall before updating as the program doesn't have an ini file or anything like it at all.

Nate, thanks for the info. I will most likely change the installer to that format. I will give it a go and see.

David, you may be right. I have Visual Studio on both my home and work computers and the simple path works fine on both.

David if you mean the far right tab then I have fixed it. If you mean the 5th tab then I cannot reproduce it. Can I have a copy of your custom file if this is the case.

I will post a new version soon - done

Have installed v1.3

Can add threads to all tabs EXCEPT for type 1000 & type 2000 (i.e. 9th and 10th tabs).

Strangely when I select my Standard File, I now get name 'Metric Other' for Tab 5, and 'Engilsh Other' for Tab 9 - Tab 5 name gets overwritten back to Metric Coarse if I add a thread. My custom thread file attached - will be interesting to see if you find anything odd in it.
Had to change extension to get it to upload.

With v1.3 I can now enable in Add-on manager (there is no longer any error).

I now get the icon showing in the Add-ons tab, but unfortunately it won't launch the editor. I have to launch it from desktop shortcut, or from the External shortcut in C:\Program Files\Alibre Design\Program\Addons\ThreadEditor

Getting there !

David, I tweaked the names of tabs 9 & 10 which broke the routine - fixed. v1.4 uploaded

Using your custom file everything worked as expected. There still is an issue with the name of tab 9. It still says just English when loaded but changes to English Other as desired when you load a file. I have looked and looked but cannot find why.

Thanks for sticking with this and my meagre programming. Hopefully it will be right soon.

Ok - back to plan B with the addon

Idiot me didn't test the addon after compiling the release file, it didn't work for me either. v1.4.1 is now up - works for me again at least (in the new format)

Thats it for tonight.

Yes - all seems to work now. Some minor renaming of tabs on loading file, but not a problem for me.

With my Standard file
Metric Special, gains an asterisk on the end.
English becomes English Other*

With Sample File the results are slightly different
UNF gains an asterisk
Metric Coarse gains an asterisk
English becomes English Other

Addon launches from icon in the Addons ribbon and from Tools->Addons menu

I can add threads to the tabs that were problematic before.

Your efforts are appreciated!

David, the tab names are meant to get an asterisk added to them to signify that the tab has data. The first time I loaded a file that just had metric it looked like nothing had happened, so I added the asterisk.

English is supposed to be English Other. I can't work out at the moment why it starts like that.

Yep- that seems to work. Only a quick look so far, but the quirks with tab titles seem fixed.

Much appreciated!

After installing v2018, the thread editor doesn't pick up the contents of my custom thread file any more - even though Alibre Design uses them successfully. I'll have a play and see if I can resolve.

Not fixed by re-install. I can open the custom file OK - it just doesn't seem to want to pick it up on opening.

Or am I mis-remembering the functionality....?

I think you are mis-remembering. I opened the program before updating this morning and it doesn't auto load the custom file. I think that was what happened in early versions but as I was trying to offer the option of multiple thread files I ended up changing it to manual selection.

Hi Albie,
Thanks for writing the thread editor but being new to this I need some numpty level help. I have downloaded it and it appears in the "Add-On" tab. When I click on it I get this:
upload_2020-9-29_9-59-36.png

When I click on "Documentation" It says "File not found". I need step by step instructions on how to use it. Is the data on thread sizes already there or do I need to put that in using "Create new file". is there a quick way to import a CSV file, if so what order should the columns be in? How do "put" a thread on a surface once I've got the data?
I am primarily interested in BSP threads.

Thanks.

Hi. Due to the fact that the current thread file format will become obsolete when V22 is released, here is BSP data for you to add.

From the Alibre start window, click the Utilities Tab and the Templates Directory under Miscellaneous.
Open the file alibre_unicode_custom.thd and add the following lines to the bottom.

Be sure to save the file in unicode format, maybe even get Notepad++ (free) to edit the file with.

Close Alibre and reopen it. The file is only read on startup.

You will then find BSP under User English.

Here is the documentation, such as it was.
