Tool Compatibility

I have created a design that I would like to share with a person in Europe, I'm in Utah, US.

He needs to alter/update my design, and I don't want to be involved in any of his future design changes.

Is there any way to pass on parts generated by Alibre into another tool?

I obviously know and will encourage him to buy at least Atom, but I got curious myself.

Thanks

You can export as STEP files for him and unless he has Alibre Design he won't be able to edit any features in your design. He will have to work with it the same as you working with STEP files; any modifications will need to be made by moving or deleting faces and adding new features.

I kind of thought so, but my experience is basic use of Alibre so I thought that I would ask.

Thanks

Be aware if encouraging your collaborator to purchase Atom3D, that the file will only open if it doesn't use any features not supported in Atom3D. So a trial would be sensible to check this.

Would it be OK if I requested a trial and tested it like you said?

Or is there a "switch" I can set to only make use of the Atom features?

On a PC it is not possible to have atom and expert at the same time if you do not have two separate connected licenses. The program is identical but when you enter the license number the functions are unlocked or blocked depending on the license held.
There are two solutions: either you download the atom trial on a second PC or you try to do it on a virtual machine that you can create with tools like virtualbox. The first is the simplest path, while the second requires a certain degree of familiarity and patience. I hope to have given you some useful information,

I was suggesting that your colleague should trial Atom3D BEFORE buying, to make sure it works for him

Yes, but I was curious too, and want to verify before advising him to buy.

I have a laptop, so I will try it on that one.

Thanks all!

If attempting to open a trial, use a different e-mail address from any that is associated with your existing licence (if the address is recognised by licensing system the trial is unlikely to run).

I had the Expert version stored on my Laptop PC, before loading the Atom Version.

A great suggestion but somehow it doesn't work even after I removed the expert version from the Applist first.

I think that Alibre hides the License information about the tool in such a way that it doesn't get removed together with the App.

I will have to look for it in the Windows area.

If the computer had previously had Alibre installed, the computer ID is held by the licensing system. This is one reason why I suggested that your collaborator takes a trial.
