What's new

What .PDF writer/reader/editor do you use?

Opinions sought - I'm looking for a new .PDF writer but don't fancy paying for Adobe Acrobat.
I do want a tool that will install as a printer, can edit existing .pdf and is unobtrusive when used as a simple reader.
I quite like to look of Kofax Power PDF ( now Tungsten Power PDF) but worry that the new owners haven't even bothered to change the application to reflect the new name - will they want big $$ for the rebranding?

My suggest Is with UPDF (quite cheap) or PDF Gear. This one it is very capable and It Is free!

Thanks all for the helpful info.

I have made a decision..
I have bought Kofax (Tungsten) Power PDF advanced. GBP157.20 including VAT.

Rationale for this choice:
1 Perpetual license - I hate subscription services although I do confess to using M$365
2 PC based - no cloud requirement - it's either my stuff or belongs to my clients!
3 Offers all the editing features I wanted and many others I'll probably never use
4 Works with scanner - essential
5 Includes OCR - nice to have
6 Works with embedded 3D objects - also nice to have
7 I like the interface - has the look and feel of a good office style application - much like MS Word.
8 Has a rather nice monitored folder feature - just drag/drop a (supported) file to a monitored folder (in box) and it is automatically converted to a .pdf written to a separate folder (out box).

OK - so this was a long way from the preferred free solution. but so far, I'm happy with the choice.
