That would be the miscellaneous section. That subgroup will be the
area with the heaviest traffic. It handles all our questions,
problems, and other info on the modeling and drafting portions of
Alibre. Basically, the bulk of what goes on here will just move to
miscellaneous.

Is there a way to include multiple category tags to apply to each
post too (from a pull down list)? That way, we could further sort
by category. For example, if I wanted to query all posts on tips on
how to engrave text on parts or how to import from a specific
application. I agree with Bob that it would be useful to find "how
to do it" or "tips and tricks."

Wish I had a $3000 for my next home system!

Don't neglect to check out the AMD OpteronTM Series processor.

http://www.amd.com/us-
en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_8826,00.html
(with links to IBM systems... but check others)

or the Intel Xeon
An example of a workstation that you might get :
http://www.abspc.com/app/Series.asp?fam ... &Series=65

Your new system will take care of all of your issues.

But, technique is important too. I have no doubt the patterns were
bogging your system down. We avoid patterns for complex features at
work on our workstations (well over $3000 set ups) running IDEAs.
You should not have problems though with a new workstation running
your existing parts (I am basing this opinion on the fact that you
got buy with the system you have).

Isn't it fun to spend money! Happy shopping.

John

I second Dave´s comments. I belong to eng-tips also and it is good.
But, you have to make an effort to go there. With the mail coming
directly to my inbox from the yahoo algor and alibre user groups as
they are posted I can keep up with what´s going on.

Thanks to the group.

I'm glad Greg is looking into another message board. It's so
cumbersome to read the messages I receive in email.

I have a question on the suggestions below. What does binaries mean?
I would expect categories like part modeling, assembly, drawings,
sheet metal, tutorials and etc. I understand the 2-7 below but
binaries sounds like 1 and 0's to me.

Biniaries is the "standard" newsgroup heading when you can expect
attachments along with the post. Similar to how there is the files
area in the yahoo group. The attachment (file) does not stay with the
message.

The reason for this is as I mentioned earlier. People with dialup
don't have to wait 10 minutes for messages to download because of a
zip file that doesn't apply to them. Basically, you start you message
in misc or one of the other subgroups and when you need to post a file
as an example or to clarify, you also start a message in the binaries
group, cross-referencing your original post. This is simple netiquette.

For those that are requesting a "how-to" or "tips-n-tricks" section.
I guess I don't understand why. The entire set of groups is how-to
and tips-n-tricks. I don't see how we could separate them. Based on
the requests, though, I could see a FAQ subgroup that could be posted
to by Alibre only and it would consolodate a lot of the typical
questions asked.

We have a single Euro character - its there on all Keyboards that
ship outside USA I reckon! Trouble is every email that goes through
the states has the euro character scrambled. The same usually happens
with the pound sign!

I am outside of the USA and I don't have a Euro character on my keyboard,
nor a Pound character for that matter.

FW: [Alibre Design] Functionality of algor

I looked over my suppliers shoulder while they imported my step file
into sldwx and analysed the bending of my stain guage beam part.
Comosworks calculated a stress about 80% of what I read with the
strain guage. The sldwx cosmaos does not reveal the displacements.
Even the mesh size is a bit of a mystery.

I downloaded the 15 day demo from Algor they say it is the same as
what is supplied with Alibre (this you can lease for $500/3 months),
it does include the internal to Algor part modelling. So far,
although it seems to mesh Ok and shows something like the right sort
of bent shape, the stress and illustrated displacement are getting on
for 100 times too small. Presumably there is something fundamentally
wrong (though it doesn't seem to be the units!).

Also it takes something like 50 minutes to analyse my simple built in
one end single load beam on my 2Gz AMD 500 legs of lamb machine
(Cosmosworks was almost instant on the similar hardware). This uses a
meshsize 80% of default as suggested in help.

I'm not impressed so far.
Also, amusingly, they phones me about 10 seconds after filling in the
online form during the demo install, before the installation was
complete... and again the next day!

Something very wrong there. I have just analysed a 70 000 element model in
less than 5 minutes.

I would check with Algor support.

Hello,

I'm new around here and I'm still learning.

Is anybody there to know how to add a RADIAL hole? I have a
cylindrical part and I have to add a number of threaded holes for the
conjugated covers.

Thanks,

Daniel

Hi, if I understand your question right:

Make one hole (on the end face of the cyl. part - or where you want
it), then go to feature-pattern-circular
Your hole should be selected in features and you choose the cyl.
center axis as center and get the number and angle right. The "?"
button should give some hints.

Hope it helped.

USD
GBP
EUR
and so on... then you stay safe from mixing the different dollar,
punds etc.
The EUR don't look as cool at the EUR sigh though...

By radial, do you mean a radial distance from the center, but still with the hole’s axis aligned with the cylindrical part, or do you mean radially with the holes’s axis perpendicular to the cylinders axis?

The first one, just sketch on the flat end of the cylinder, and dimension the hole from the center.

If you mean the second one, through the side of the cylinder, you’ll have to add a new plane to use as the sketch plane for your hole. Add an offset plane from one of the part’s main xy/xz/yz planes and sketch on the resulting plane. You could then pattern those holes if you’d like.
