I've recently tried using more of the surface tools available in Pro and Expert. I haven't tested it yet but it seems to me now that I could do the following:
Create the inside of the ring first using a simple extrude cut across the shaft to leave just a piece the desired thickness of the flange.
Convert that face to a surface.
Thicken that surface outwards.

It could really be so simple.

Talk about thinking outside the box. Genius idea.

I too am finding the Surface tools to be useful in other ways. I got snagged into thinking of surface tools like in SolidWorks where you create surfaces from points. edges, etc.
