If you are using vista, try disabling the Aero theme and switch to Vista Basic. I have see huge improvements with the speed of Alibre Design with out Aero on versus having it enabled.

Sorry to inform you but the Geforce 8 series of cards giving graphics issues is a know issue with Alibre cam, as well as some of the high end 8 series cards.
