What sort of background of statics/dynamics and materials science do you have. I wouldn't use FEM unless I could create a suitable mathematical solution to the design I was modelling. When did you get your trial. I applied for one a while back :)

Just to chip in with my 2 cents... That occurs to me in drafting when my model becomes too large (ie components with threads on etc). Also that occurs when I have CTRL ALT DELETED.

Can you change the order of your design configurations in an assembly. It would be nice if they defaulted to alphabetic or even if I had to shuffle them about manually. But they are in chronological order of creation, which is not very useful.

It sounds like I have two different issues one graphics and one mass related.

It will calculate on the low setting when the helical cut and edge chamfer, I can only assume it doesn't check its workings out as that would seem to be one of the comments in the warning. Not to worry for the minute, I can get around it for the moment. But it would be nice to find a solution

It does work on shorter lengths you are correct. I never add threads etc onto parts but this item needs to look correct for when I put images of it in the manual. Hmm, I'm using the latest ATI driver but my card is hopeless here at work (ati X1300). I'll try it at home on my Nvidia setup.
