I was wondering how well Alibre imports STL or OBJ files. I want to 3D scan some parts and import them into CAD for reverse engineering and/or modification. My 3D scanner software exports files as STL or OBJ. Thanks

Most 3D CAD programs have a checkbox that lets you select visual threads or physical threads. I'm really surprised Alibre doesn't have this feature yet as most CAD programs have had this ability for many years now.

I also own both versions.

We have been asking for this feature for a long time. I don't know if Alibre is actually working on it or not, but they do know we want this feature.

It doesn't work in Alibre because the 3DConnexion SDK hasn't been implemented in the Alibre software properly according to 3DConnexion. Alibre has since contacted 3DConnexion, so I think this might be fixed in the next release of Alibre Atom3D/Design... hopefully.

I did this and programmed the buttons. They work sometimes and sometimes they don't. Also, the behavior is unpredictable. Sometimes they zoom in when they shouldn't be zooming and sometimes they don't do anything. For the most part, they work with the hotkeys, just very unpredictable. Not...

I also submitted a request with 3DConnexion. They told me they were trying to get a copy of the Alibre software for testing. I don't know if they tried to contact Alibre or not but if someone from Alibre could reach out to them, I'm sure that would move things along.
