Hi.

I searched and found this comment.
http://linuxpr.com/releases/32.html

Do you have any news on 3D CAD run on Linux?

P.S.
Also, this speculation leads to that ACIS, which I guess Alibre is also dependent upon, would run on Linux might suggest that Alibre might as well run on Linux, sometime. Not far from today.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACIS

as i can see, ( Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Version 5 GNU C++ gcc 4.1.2 ) ... But did you tried FreeCAD? I was just playing other day with it...some minor issues with Python but the thing works if you can bare some minor issues a bare !

I would be really happy when Alibre would work on Linux natively but as i have read in couple of posts for that there is slim chance... :S

Thanks for your reply.

Now, I installed Fedora 13 on my Inspiron 1720, and there is no way to install any useful software since I am away from Linux almost 5 years time..... :?

But I seem to remember there was a wire frame 3D CAD modeler both Linux and Windows somewhere.

I will try to see one which based on the ACIS, while I am googling on the web.
I might find one then.

Thank you, again.

P.S.
My new Windows 7 64bits is on the way, I am looking forward to it to let run the 64bits Alibre.

Ubuntu is solid user friendly distro, if you have any experience with debian this will be a fast and simple transition!:). And i must add it has a lot of great engineering software in it's repos ;)

Gee, I am now using Fedora 64bits.
I heard of Ubuntu. And I once thought about it, but I am so get used to working with Debian and I know that I have to rebuild kernel now and then.
While Fedora except the graphic card, so far I don't have to go into command line typing work.
(Adobe flash 64bits version was the only exception, but I used only 'ls' and 'mv'.)

At least, my wife can surf the web with it and enjoy looking at the youtubes and flash sites, I would rather stay with this current condition until I get Windows 7 PC.

Without Win7, I would never be able to run Alibre.

Have you tried VariCAD? It's been a while since I used it last, but seem to remember that it was ACIS based.
