Assign a mass to a 3rd party assembly

Is there a way to assign a mass to an imported third party part or assembly? I know the weight of the part, such as a motor, but I can't use the material properties fo rthe right density of all the parts that make up the motor.

If you do not really care about the precise center of gravity, create a custom material that has a density of 0. Then measure the volume of a part that is close to the center of mass of the assembly and divide the known weight by that volume. Create a second custom material with that density and assign it to the part you measured.

This is generally a bad practice. But it can get you out of a bind.

Hi Ralf. How do I assign the weight for an imported part(assembly) to the mass value that will be used to calculate total weight and the center of mass?

Please take a look:

You can assign the weight for an imported part and/or assembly to the mass value that will be used to calculate the total weight and show it in a BOM.
(It is often used to calculate the transport weight of a machine.)
