I believe a "triad" should always be visible on the screen when making measurements; otherwise, you are not sure what axes you are measuring.

I'm always confused as to which direction is which. Since when is the Y-axis "up"? If the co-ordinate system could be displayed in a corner (instead of at the axis), giving a quick visual reference, that would be much handier when making measurements.

Axis Direction Display

Hi - I guess there is some missing information in this post thread - as in - are you talking about when in part mode - creating/editing sketches?
(If so - if you are on a standard plane like XY - then X = left Right, and Y = up Down. Also - if your are aligned to the XY Plane in your assembly - and click a standard view - it will align to standard planes except of course in isometric.)

If I am in assembly mode - and moving a part / subassembly - with precise placement - I can use translation in X, Y, and Z - and the motion will be (I believe) in standard plane references -which are normally shown but can be turned off in the view menu choices.

When you talk about making measurements - which tool are your refering to that you use? Which Icon/menu selection are you working with?

In sketch mode - the information is presented as to where the cursor is - in the Status Bar - right hand corner - in 2 or 3 positional values (X,Y, Z) Cursor Location Coordinates Readout.

Is this something that needs a tutorial or will a quick swf video suffice? Just wondered - since I don't seem to have this difficulty. Robert
