I have never really used the BOM's

Is it not possible to include a column for mass (weight) in the BOM?

It is quite common in some disciplines to state the mass of each component.

You can insert a new column and give it a heading "Weight" you insert a new column or row just like in MS Excel right click then I think "append" for either row or column. The weight info will have to be inputed manually unless Alibre will let you pull info from one of the fields in the part properties for a certain part, I've only inputed manually.

Whe you insert the column you get a list of headings for it. The last choice is weight. Whenyou pick from the list of headings then the relavant part data will be inserted in the bom, or you will get an undefined message.
In the part file you enter the appropriate data for these fields under file prperties. Hopefully the weight is generated automatically if you enter a density.
Pity you have to enter the desity figures rather than pick from a list of materials - even if you had to enter the materials list yourself somewhere.
