CAM follow contraints

How do I create a constraint to a CAM (oval shape on outside diameter) with a pin so the OD of the pin moves around the oval shaped CAM ?

The cam needs to be a single continuous object (like oval or circle) or nearly continuous like a closed spline. Then I think a point can be constrained to the edge and the follower to that point.
