A customer wanted SVG files of a control box we build for their machines. After a lot of searching, trying different programs and website conversion tools, nothing worked. But I finally did solve it:
That's all, except there is an important detail. The PDF file made by Alibre makes an Adobe PDF. Other PDFs did not work for me; PDFCreator, and Foxit were two I use regularly. These didn't work, don't know why, and frankly don't care.
- Open the drawing in Alibre
- Gem (circular button at the top left) > Publish to PDF (give it a <file name> and save)
- Open Inkscape (inkscape.org)
- File > Open (find your <filename.pdf> you just made)
- File > Save as (save a new file as <filename>.svg)
