Create a Custom Symbol

Do I see correctly that it is impossible to make a Custom Symbol from a view of an existing part?
When making a drawing the Create Custom Symbol menu entry stays grayed out until I draw something on the sheet.
And even then if I draw something on the sheet so Create Custom Symbol goes active I can not select any projected view, only things that I drew on the sheet.
How can I get around this limitation?

Hi Don,

Quick and dirty:
- Insert a new plane,
- Projekt To Sketch,
( Now you have a new 2D Sketch)
- Create a custom Symbol

Thanks Ralf, unfortunately I want also to have the center marks from the drawing.
I may just have to draw it all. I had thought that using the facilities of AD would make things faster.
I am just making a first angle projection image.
I thought that fastest way would be make a truncated cone, then two views of that with center marks, finished.
I had never considered that they don't allow you to use the info that comes from their program to make things go faster.

You could export the drawing as .dwg.
Open the .dwg in Alibre Design.
Create the symbols from that imported drawings sketch.
