Generating views on startup

Why is it that when I load an assembly, some times it will generate and set up right away, but other times it will hopelessly hang for ten minutes or more, generating faces?

It seems to be about half and half. The problem is more pronounced when I'm in a hurry, of course, or when I'm trying to show something to a client. I especially like that part.

I can't say why it happens to you, but I have a case that happens to me at times.
That is when I change a subassembly directly, i.e. I load and change the subassembly without going through the top level assembly. The next time I open the top level assembly it has to regenerate everything and that takes more or less forever.
The way to avoid it is to always open parts or subassemblies from the top level assembly with either edit here or edit in own window.
Maybe that is your case too.
