hole pattern on a non planar face

I am trying to complete a cad drawing of a piston. What I want to do is choose the face at the bottom of the oil ring groove for the 8 holes. It gives me the message that it is a non planar face. How would I go about this? thanks for any help you can give me. I realize I could easily drill the holes without adding them to the cad drawing but....

Circular hole pattern? Difficult to say without some kind of visual aid as to what you're trying to do...

If the holes are radial holes, as I assume they are (very usual for such), then just create a tangent plane, do one hole, and then do a feature pattern.

You will probably need to project the oil ring groove edges to the sketch plane in order to properly locate the holes.

A 'non-planar' face is exactly that - not flat. Sketches have to be placed on a plane or a planar face, same for the hole tool. You'll have to arrange a plane to start on.
