how to: "import" a .gif image file

how to: "import" a .gif image file

Greetings,

I am stumped, and I am hoping that someone here may have had the same
situation once and managed to do better for a solution.
I am attempting to design a part that will need my image as a focal
point for the design.
Question: How do I import this *.gif image into Alibre so that I can begin
the design process?

Research in these forums found one thread recommending the use of
Rhino to import the image and then save it as a step file so that Alibre
can use it. Is this right for what I need to do or is Alibre capable
of importing the image and allowing me to begin a 2d sketch session
around it?
thanks for your consideration and efforts to enlighten,
scott

Hi Scott,

You have to import it into an Alibre Drawing first. There you can scale it, trace over it, and then copy and paste the trace into a Part Sketch.

Greetings Miles,

Thanx! :D
It is of odd coincidence that I began using a graphics image/photo
program called "Gimp". In the many great tutorials offered by
its excellent users, is one on manipulating imported images for
rendering. And after reviewing your steps regarding Alibre's
functionality toward the same, I find both programs engaging
in a basically similiar mechanism to achieve my request!
(using polylines as the trace mechanism)
Thanks Miles for your help.
If I can get all of this figured out and finished I will post
the design in the binary file ----
