Is it possible to purge only some versions?

So I've been saving a lot and banked a whole pile of versions. Now I want to make some room and purge the versions but wait! Gee, it would be nice to keep a few, right? Is there a way to purge only some of the versions? I could not find a way.

You used to be able to "pin" an older version, which would force that to be the current version, but that ability was removed loooong ago. It may have caused some other unintended consequences.

But as it sounds now, nope, you can't save some of them. When you purge, only the last version is saved.
