Licence issue - Again!!!!!!!!

Hi,

A few mo back I format one of my computers. (I had V8 on it)
Last week just to be up to speed I decide that I will re install V8 to be ready for V9

Big surprise. The licence key don't work.
I contact AA and base on his reply if you format the HD the side key will change. (your licence key is not working ......)

This is diffrent from what Alibre's CEO posted just after V8 was relesed.

Did anybody format his computer an get the same key working.?

Dan.

I believe the "Site Key" is generated by hasing a bunch of details about your system, and it is very likely that a disk format and OS reinstall will change those.

The Alibre Design License Key is derrived from the Site Key, so if your Site Key changes, you need to get a new License Key.

Your license (legal right to run the software) is still valid; you just need to request a new License Key from the overmind at Alibre.

This is one of the drawbacks of so-called "Digital Rights Management", or DRM. I prefer the expansion "Digital Restrictions Management", because that's what it's about -- restricting what you can do.

I don't like DRM'ed software, because it can create problems for me, the paying customer. If Alibre's systems have trouble, or the Internet has trouble, or I have trouble, or some other trouble happens -- and it does, we all know that -- then you may be stuck with software you paid for but cannot use.

If Alibre goes out of business, we essentially lose the ability to install Alibre Design from that point forward. Existing installs should continue to work, but as they need to be replaced it will gradually disappear. I don't like that at all.

Unfortunately, this appears to be the way the entire payware industry is headed. :-(

Ben,

I'm with you 100% and I don't want a new key(I want the old key to work). Alibre's CEO was very clear in his clamis that formating the HD will not change the key.

When Alibre changed to "DRM" I call for a vote and most of the users were "indiferent" so looks like the most of the users are OK to loose the access to their files.

this is because you changed your machine ID of XP.
Go to computer in XP. then to computername and then press the change button now you can modify your computername.
Give in your old computer name.
I even believe that you can ask your old computer name at Alibre.com
Under the tab account data.

Have fun

I downloaded it [the Site Key Generator utility] about a month ago when I was grabbing things out of the downloads section of support.

I don't know what it is for or how to use it...but here is where you get it.
https://www.alibre.com/support/downloads.aspx

It's used to obtain the Site Key on a computer without installing Alibre Design. It's intended to be used with ANLM (Alibre Network License Manager), which is typically run on a server (where one should not or cannot install a CAD package). ANLM allows for "network shared" or "floating" licenses, where you're licensed for X number of concurrent users.

Hi,

Changing the ID was the first thing I did. IS NOT WORKING.
Regardless of the ID's computer(I tested 4 different ones) the Sitekey is the same.

I contacted AA and he was clear. Once you format your HD the site key will change.

Does somebody has the guts to skip the maintenance?

What is the big deal? Get a new license key. I have five on my account (five different computers, five different keys, one user license) Alpbre support should be more than willing to send you a new key. My computer did it automatically using my username and password. The only time I run into trouble is when I reformat or rename any machine now I have to call support and tell them what I did, which computer is renamed/gone, and they send me a new key.

So I'm wondering if this license issue is my problem...I don't think so, yet. I upgraded from 8.2 to 9.0 Pro via download on my office computer (works fine), and ordered the CD. CD arrived, so I thought I'd use it to upgrade my nearly identical home machine. No matter what I do, including removing every vestige (that I can find) of AD and it's associated programs, on every attempt to start 9.0, the computer hangs, with nothing but a white box where the sign-in screen normally would be. There's no opportunity to provide a license key, user name, or password, and the computer is stuck to the point that I have to use the hardware power switch to shut down. The computer is attached to the internet during this process by full-time cable connection. Can this be a license issue?

TIA,
Doug

I doubt yours is a licensing issue. If you do not have a valid license key it should install as Alibre Xpress. You have something else going on. Just to be safe make sure all anti-virus, and anti-spyware is turned off before you try and install.
