MSC.visualNastran Motion performance

Hi all!

Has anyone had any experience using MSC.visualNastran Motion with Alibre?

We design machinery and would like to mimic the way mechanisms move.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have played with the demo version. It seems pretty neet. It will do what I need it to do, (simulate motion of radial engine, including gears and cam/lifter associations). Unfortunatly I wasn't able to save the assembly I built in it. I spent several hours building to test functionality.

Hey Clint,

Just 2 things:

Number one THANKS for posting that super cool model :!: Come on, tell us the story behind it...

Second would be to ask you for the link to download the demo.

Here is the link to the demo software. I suggest dowloading all the tutorial files also.

As for the story of the model, I created this model for a client that builds and sells these engines to model airplane builders. He bought Alibre because he wanted to be able to check fits, and interferences to modifications to the current design of the engine. After purchasing the software you contacted Scott E. at Alibre and asked if there was a consultant in his area. It turned out that I was the only one near him, so Scott called me and gave me the contact information. It started out as I was just going to give him some training, and he would take over from there. After a few sessions he decided he really didn’t have the time to devote to learn the software as well as he need, so I ended converting all the 2D drawings to models. Some components didn’t even have drawings so I had to reverse engineer them. Luckily I have access to a Coordinate Measuring Machine for that portion of the work. I have been working on this model for eight or nine months now. Many things have been modified, or re-designed in the engine. My client was looking to maximize the engines performance without doing any drastic changes.

Here is a link to his web site if you are interested in a little more about the engine.

Using Camtasia or other screen video capture tools

Hi all - and Clint - If you had that model 'running' and you did a screen video capture of it - it would be a great presentation item!!

One of the motion models I would like to do is a good old fashioned steam engine (Train engine). Robert

Unfortunalty, I did not do a screen capture of it when I had it running. At the time I did not have snag it. I wish I would have thought of it before I had to close the assembly. I am sure the my client will be wanting this in the future so I will do it again, just not sure when.
