That (posted) statement is actually true. I admit that I usually do my (2D) concept sketches using General CADD, but my actual design work is done (mostly) using Geomagic Design. The besetting sin of Alibre/Geomagic is the "lack" of "polishing" done once something has been initially implemented.RocketNut said:I notice that they mentioned Lew Merrick testimony on there Design page.
When I started this thread I was wondering if we would see a 2016 version. Maybe, if the rep you spoke to is correct, we'll see a 2017 version (he said, waiting with bated breath). As for updating their web site, it is interesting that they have finally posted some videos of Design being used but it would be nice if they would create some that are, if not current, at least newer than those that were created when the name was Alibre.rockfusion said:New 3DSystems website rolled out. Under the 'design' section, Geomagic is still listed and shows the new greenish-blue cover. I had a converstaion with a really nice (and actually helpful) rep from 3DSystems a few days back and she said she acknowledged that it was weird for the company to not have any updates for over a year and a half, but that Geomagic Design is still a very lucrative and good product for them. She also said that they should have an upgrade or announcement very soon for the GD followers. It sounded to me like she knows a lot more, but wanted to give me a nugget of hope.
Here's the new site, poke around... https://www.3dsystems.com/workflow/design

The dude with the beard and glasses... look at his screen... ribbon looks like GD, the tree looks like GD but the workspace?? That rendered image is NOT GD. The rest of the page is tip-top as far as I'm concerned but that top image is not.
I don't like stuff like that.

I was right there with you ready to call, "Shenanigans" when I tried to find similar toolbars in Assembly or Part Edit in Assembly. I couldn't find anything that was close enough to say that's a GD session pictured (unless it's the mythical new version). The window top bar and logo icon in upper right [edit: upper LEFT ] were things I couldn't reproduce either. So I will call Shenanigans https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNxCvDYpmxEbigseb said:More likely. Don't know why they would do that either. No other MCAD software look like that. Looks fine how it is.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Autodesk products and probably SW has built-in realistic rendering.bigseb said:No other MCAD software look like that...
True that they have rendering built-in but like Harold says they are not photorealistic. Now I should add that I have past experience with Solidworks but not Autodesk. Standalone specialist software like Keyshot and Simlab blows anything I've seen out the water. My opinion. YMMV.nvanlaar said:I wouldn't necessarily say that.
