pan zoom with large hidden part in assy

I have a large hidden part in the imported keyshot file
[it's a building,my object for rendering is a small machine therein
the small dot which is the machine zooms in ok to visible then begins to track off the bottom of the screen.

Alt cmb drag to pan doesnt work - is the large part too large?
I do not wish to adjust the assembly if I can avoid it

How to see it?

You might try suppressing the part rather than hiding it.
