Jeff -- 1 Slug = 1 lbm * 1 ft/sec². 1 slinch = 1 lbm * 1in/sec². 1 ft = 12 inches. Therefor 12 * 1 slinch = 1 slug.

Lew - According to our friend Mr. Newton, F=m*a. For the same force, if you have 1/12 the value of a, you need 12 times the value of m.
Therefore, 12 * 1 slug = 1 slinch.

12 inches = a foot. Therefore 1 ft-lb/sec² = 12 in-lb/sec² -- not the other way around. Thus, 1 slug - 12 Slinches.
