Do you mean like a PDF print driver type things? Or specifically the check box for "print to file"? If you are talking specifically about that check box I think that printing to PDF's and similar have probably replaced that due to their ease of exchange and preview.
I use Adobe Acrobat and to get a good quality print I have to print to file (.ps extension), and then use the Acrobat Distiller.
Doing it this was enables me to have more options on the quality settings.

I print to file on my USB key in .msi format and when I arrive can print from the key on a computer that doesn't have Alibre installed.
