For now:

Use a free program such as this < http://deskam.com/deskengrave.html > to create the text. Import to Alibre Drawing. Copy and Paste into Sketch.

Beware, imported DXFs for complex curves consist of multiple straight lines and are a resource-hog - if this is a problem, trace over them in Drawing before Copying and Pasteing.

Hi andrzej,

I think "Precision" is the only one that makes much difference to DXF output. It sets the no. of line segments that a spline is broken down into.

The default 8 is a reasonable compromise. Below 5 it gets pretty crude. 12 for higher quality.

Experiment with the letter "S" to see for yourself.

It doesn't take that long to trace over the curved letters in Alibre Drawing, then you have high quality and low resource requirements when converted into a solid.

3D Text

if you like please visit my homepage.
http://www.weimer-cad.de
Here you can download all letters, upper and lower case, as symbols.
Sorry, short tutorial is only in german at the moment.

Create a little sketch in the model where you want the text to be placed.
Copy sketch -> new empty drawing -> paste.
Insert all the letters you need, maybe using snap to grid.
You can scale or rotate the symbols.
When Text is ready, explode all the symbols, copy and paste into the sketch defining the area in model.
You now van extrude or cut.

Have fun with it.

This looks like a very good tool, I just checked out your website Alex and it's very impressive. Congratulations on making an important tool needed for AD. I look forward to using this, although I don't have much use for it now; there is always tomorrow!
