Tread pattern Modeling

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a way to model treads on tires such as the diamond pattern on may aircraft like the B-25 Mitchell.
Any suggestions as to how this is accomplished would be appreciated.

Create a Male Part Model of the tire and then perform a BOOLEAN Subtract from your Mold Sections? [I assume that you have the diameters of the tire and can calculate the elliptical path that the "tread grooves" would follow.]
