V10 - How do you use direct editing?

My direct-editing icons are always disabled. Is this an Expert only feature, or is there something special I need to do to enable it?

Direct Editing show as a pro and Expert feature.

But you still have the Move, Offset, and Remove, editing Features.......

I don't see anywhere it says the direct editing is only in Pro and expert. Apparently it is though, because my icons are grayed out. Now I wonder what else I'm going to find that doesn't work.

Topology Patterns are also part of the Direct Editing group of features.
