Walnut machine

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to show you a fun project I did with Alibre recently. The job was to design a machine that spews out one walnut per day. So I designed a walnut dispensing mechanism and added a one day timer to the drive.

The glass was home to some pickles before and I had to guess the thread pitch.

The bottom is made from walnut wood (I had this turned by a pro - this is beyond my capabilities). Turned out beautifully!

Knob is 1.4305 and if you look closely you see that I set the facing tool a small bit too low on the lathe.

Now here's the feed mechanism:

A small DC gear motor drives two counter-rotating foam squares. Gears are made using the Alibre gear generator (@Alibre: Thanks!!!) and printed from PLA. The timer PCBA was designed using KiCad, which (being free software) absolutely amazed me.

As you might imagine, quite a few hours of Alibre time went into this:

Printed on my Prusa MK3S in PLA.

Super impressive. Very clean design and also visually. Tidy use of 3D printing and of 3D design tool.

I presume that the walnut is to feed some critter. Do let us know if said critter eventually comes to be seen to be "hanging about" at around the "drop time".
