I don't think Alibre is certified for W7. Is there a software compatibility wizard in that O/S?

I suggest using a very large HAMMER!!

Even better try to get in touch with Alibre Tech Support.

I had this problem back in February, with AD 11.1 and Win7 beta.

I debugged it and sent the information to Alibre on 4th Feb, but I don't know if they fixed it for 11.2 or not.

Here's the information I sent them. If it's all double-Dutch to you then you probably shouldn't try it, if it's helpful, then good. I was running AD 11.1 successfully on Win7Beta up to last week when I installed the RC, and I haven't yet put AD back on to this machine.

What both of the failing apps do is to try and read the Windows product ID from HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\productid.

However, on a Win7 machine (and all NT-derived OS's, I think), the product ID is actually in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProductId.

By creating copy of my product ID in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion, I have been able to get Alibre V11 to start properly, using the same site key as V10. Although I don't actually need to use it, SiteKeyGen also correctly reports the Site Key now as well.

Have you tried it on Windows 7RC with AD 11.2?
I can't get it to generate a site key even with the site key generator.

I just got this working myself on Windows 7 Release Candidate and I just wanted to not that I had to right click select properties Compatibility tab and select Windows Vista SP 2 to get it to work. Just in case anyone else is struggling with this one.

Not working at all for me. I tried the registry mod suggested above. Tried various compatibility modes as well. No luck.

Using allenj20 suggestion of setting the Compatibility mode to Vista SP2 I was able to get Alibre V11 to give me a Site Key.
I'm working on the released version of Windows 7.

Alibre V11 appears to work as expected.

Thanks to allenj20 for this suggestion.

I'm unable to get 11.2 working with Windows7 RC. I've tried the registry edit, and have tried various compatability modes.

Anyone know of another way of getting this to work?

Cheers!

Alibre Design 11.2 was not designed to work on Win7 (it was out quite a while ago...)

v12 is Win7 compatible.

If anyone has an solution for this one, I have tried the compatibility mode, but it didn't work, I'm not able to get the license key to work. So I can't go back to vista now, so I guess I have to use the V12 Beta then....

Hi Martin,

I think the best is to use the V12 beta, all other tests/attemts are IMHO "nonsense". :)
To play with the registry is dangerous and problems appear/come out later as: unexpected reasons ...
Windows 7 works better than Vista and the V12 is almost ready, so far.

Speaking of O/S what about XP SP3?? Are there any problems with V12 running on XP?

Hi Wing,

XP is working like a good old steam railway... :D
also with Alibre V12.

Complete XP reinstall once a year...and it runs, runs...

Oh I wish I had that much time on my hands. But downloading all those SP's and hotfixes after the reinstall takes 2 days at my internet speed. And that doesn't include any applications being reinstalled or updated. Do you use a Ghosting program?

v12 is Win7 compatible.

Lots of software that was not designed to run on windows 7 works well - Alibre is the first package that I've had a problem with. V11 is reported to work fine if run in Vista compatability mode, so I wonder why not 11.2?

Is there any chance of a hotfix or something that allows it to install, or a workaround even if it's not officially supported?

I hope a solution to this is found soon. Cheers!

This is not a definitive answer but for encouragement I can add this:
I was running Alibre Express v11/11.1 on Windows 7 RC1 x86 (32 bit) using the info posted by willdean at the beginning of this thread. Since August 13/09 I've been running Alibre v11.2 Standard on this same system (after uninstalling Express). It runs without any apparent issues. My memory is a bit hazy but, referring to my notes, the steps I followed were (after downloading Alibre installer):
1. Using regedit, found Windows 7 RC1 x86 product ID in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProductId. (per willdean above)
2. Using regedit, created identical (to above) Windows 7 RC1 x86 product ID in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\productid. (per willdean above)
3. Installed Alibre v11.2 by double clicking the Alibre install .exe - did not start Alibre yet.
4. After install went to Alibre shortcut on desktop - right clicked/picked PROPERTIES - picked COMPATIBILITY Tab - checked "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Windows Vista SP2.
5. Clicked APPLY on bottom of dialog box - clicked OK on bottom of dialog box.
6. Started Alibre v11.2 by double clicking desktop icon - it started, proceeded to update license info and I was using it shortly after.

Hi,

This may be simplistic and a total misunderstanding of what's involved but, if Alibre 11.2 is already running on a Vista computer and the same computer is upgraded to Win 7 RC, will the Site Key for Vista not continue to work? I the Site Key not hardware dependent?

A simple mind at work... :)

Thanks for the replies.

Marc, that's good thinking - I tried getting a site key from XP, then using it in Windows 7 with no luck, but was worth a try (as I don't know much about it either)!

Arro, I'll try those steps in the order you listed to see how it goes. I'm running Windows 7 RC 64 bit, and I wonder if somehow that causes a problem that is not there in the 32 bit version (could explain how some have had success and others haven't?)

I'll let you know if it works out, cheers!

Edit: no luck with this for me so far... it won't generate a site key whatever I do, and I think now I've reached my licence limit through failed attempts. I'll keep trying though :)
