Mibe,

Where did you get keyshot from? Did you download the trial and then put in you hypershot key?

Hello Albie,

You can download a Keyshot from theirs website http://www.keyshot.com. Luxeon don't sell WEB-version of Shot, cheapes version is Keyshot. It is similar like HyberShot HD. You can not save your rendering in the Trial-version.

Too bad it is so costly (IMO). :-(

I got it from http://www.luxion.com and the license key was updated automatically. I'm not sure what will happen if you NOT have an Hypershot license installed.

I asked the offer of KeyShot. It is 900 USD upgrading from HyperShot WEB to KeyShot (former HyberShot HD).

Give us about a week and we will have an option for you.

Max, Are you getting close to a rendering solution for Alibre?

The last I heard Bunkspeed wouldn't be out with their new Shot 'til 2nd quarter and Luxion has their new KeyShot ready for download now.

We were hoping to come to an agreement with Luxion, but the Web version is not part of their vision. Their product start at $1000 so it makes it difficult to bundle their software. So, for new customers we are temporarily reinstating PhotoRender until we find a better solution. We have a few in mind and hopefully within a month or two will have that finalized.

Have you considered LightWorks. It is integrated into my other CAD program (TurboCAD) and it is pretty user friendly and quite capable.

These are modeled in Alibre and Rendered with LightWorks in TurboCAD.

You can even include environments. These two were not modeled in Alibre

PhotoRender is based on LightWorks technology.

That is interesting to hear. Do you, or will you have a trial version of PhotoRender again? I would be very interested in having a look at it.

I downloaded the trial of Keyshot and it looks pretty interesting, but as you say - the cost is just too prohibitive.

In many ways it was a pity that Alibre allowed PhotoRender to fall behind the LightWorks current technology. Photorender was (and is) nothing like as easy to get quick results with as Hypershot, but it does have the advantage of being able to render at high resolution.

These days LightWorks supports HDRI (it has done for a long time) which should give some of the ease of use that Hypershot gave...

PhotoRenderer does good renders but the setup is not very user friendly. Hypershot was good at both. Regardless of what went on behind the scenes to me it looks like Luxion handled it very unprofessionally, almost as if trying to cause it so they could sell direct. I'm hoping that Bunkspeed can get things rolling soon.

Why pay to upgrade now? Apparently it can run side by side with Hypershot and according to the FAQ Ralf just posted
KeyShot FAQ said:
Can I upgrade to KeyShot and how much does it cost?

Every HyperShot software user can upgrade to KeyShot free of charge. This is a permanent upgrade of any version that you may have: Web, HD, SolidWorks Edition, Pro, Pro Floating, Education.

This however doesn't include maintenance costs or upgrades to the next version.

We are dedicated to taking care of our loyal customers who have supported us and our technology over the years. Every single owner of HyperShot will get our new generation of software to be announced soon, absolutely free. Any of you who pre-paid for upgrade to what was to be HyperShot 2010, will get our new product and also will have a choice of getting our innovative animation tool HyperMove or a full refund. Any customers who purchased our HyperShot Pro and purchased maintenance, we will extend the maintenance contract for additional year no charge.

It looks like we (existing Hypershot users) will be able to get both companies versions for free.

I'm not sure who - if either - will win in the end, but this competition can't be all bad.

I doesn't look like the Luxion has their story straight. In one place they state the upgrade is free for all HyperShot users regardless of version, yet on the store page they are asking $795 for the upgrade from HS Web. :? :? :?
There needs to be one clear statement.
