FW: [Alibre Design] Alibre with Algor question

Auto forwarded by a Rule

Hello all,

I am using Alibre Expert software with Algor Design Check (limited
feature).

I know that you can only import one part at a time to run a analysis
in the Algor version that I have.

My question, if I have an assembly that would be easier to run an
analysis as an assembly instead of a single part, can I use
the "assembly boolean" command and join the assembly, then import it
into Algor for analysis?

One more question about Algor, what is a good average mesh for each
time you run an analysis (40%, 50%, 80%, etc.) or should I run the
analysis at several different meshes and come up with an average of
what percentages are the same?

I have used FEA in the past but more on a structural frame (beam)
type of software and using FEA as solid parts I'm not sure that I am
doing everything.

Thanks

I can't answer your Boolean assembly question as I have Algor linear static
that does assembly analysis.

As for mesh size I usually just look at the area of interest and make a
judgment whether the mesh is small enough of not. For me that's usually
between 100% and 70%. To really do it correctly see the Algor tech tip

Bunch of ways to do what you want. Without knowing the slot shape
here is one way (I have never done it this way but it should work):

For a rectangular slot: Make two concentric reference circles
(sketch menu, ref figures, circle). Make a rectangle and constrain
the sides tangent to the circles (for example top and bottom lines
of rectangle tangent to small circle and left and right side lines
tangent to larger circle for a slot that is longer than it is
tall). Locate the reference circles using dimensions to whatever
you want them located by. Then extrude cut your slots. If you want
rounded edges, just use arcs on the ends and constrain the ends of
the lines as symetrical to the one ref circle center). And when you
get something that works, same the feature as a Catalog Feature to
use it again and again on any design part.

Again, there are many ways to do it so find one that works and save
that Catalog feature.

Hi there,

same as Bob here I have only algor linear static,

as for meshing, you can start with default. But here is one
catch : "convergency" of solution for a responsible analysis.

increase refining of meshes in area's of your interest, re run
calculation, check results, repeat remeshing-re run-check result
until variation is 5% or less. Some software have a convergence
target that can be adjusted and meshing is regenerated automatically.

You should be able to Boolean assemble the entire assembly into one part and analyze it in Design check. Only one material will obviously be available. As for the run time, I don’t know. I have a regular Algor seat. It is a bit different than Design check version.

How do you create nodes on line endpoints on a drawing sheet, or just get them to display, because I guess they should be there by default. They seem to already be there on some lines or just show up randomly sometimes as you are placing dimensions. I run into the need for these frequently when I have a side view of a cone shaped part, and I want to dimension the size of the ID. If you can’t pick the endpoint of the lines, Alibre wants to dimension the angle between them, since they are not parallel.

A couple of friends who are new Alibre users have emailed me an alibre file *.AD_PRT. They thought they were sending an .stp file & don't know where it came from. I could find no mention of it in Alibre help & only some obscure reference to it on a German website. Anybody able to provide a simple clarification?

When you save a alibre file outside of the repository using the file
system option it will create an alibre file with that extension. You
should be able to just to open that file with alibre.

I could be wrong, but I think there is a version of the Standard Alibre,
which does not support the file system, or is it the repository
system?....can't recall now, but I think the straight standard version only
supports the one or the other.

Depending on when you purchased the standard version, the repository
is no longer included in AD Standard. Of course, Alibre has
grandfathered in anyone that already has the repository (they have
never taken away a feature once someone has it). Either way, seems
like it would be good practice to export and Alibre Step file when
sharing the file with another Alibre user.

Create the outside shape, including gussets, etc. Add fillets on
the outside. Then Shell the block to the appropriate wall
thickness, removing the faces that you don't want. Need to keep in
mind pull direction of tool to add the appropriate draft to faces.

Is there a method in the assembly mode to project a hole pattern on
an inserted part to another inserted part? I have a basic formed
panel that is 24 X 24 and a few transformers that mount to the panel
surface. After I constrain the xformers to the panel surface I would
like to project their mounting hole locations from the mounting feet
to the panel surface to do a panel drilling layout. Any ideas would
be appreciated.

The best way that I have found is to open your assembly, and then edit your panel. In the edit mode place a sketch on the face that you would lke the holes. Pick the mounting holes from your transformer and then hit the "Project to sketch button. You can then cut, or extrude cut the profiles from the transformers. Hope that helps.

If you are doing the exact shape as the picture in the link, it
appears that your top pc is a stepped block. Then fillet the
horizontal radii, then fillet the vertical radii, then add the
square gusset or groove on top and fillet. Then shell, removing the
bottom face. Then draft as required (or add the draft prior to
shell if it works for your pull direction).

If you still are struggling, find an Alibre Assistant (or consultant
if an assistant is not available) on line and initiate a team design
session.

Please respond
to alibre

If you are doing the exact shape as the picture in the link, it
appears that your top pc is a stepped block. Then fillet the
horizontal radii, then fillet the vertical radii, then add the
square gusset or groove on top and fillet. Then shell, removing the
bottom face. Then draft as required (or add the draft prior to
shell if it works for your pull direction).

If you still are struggling, find an Alibre Assistant (or consultant
if an assistant is not available) on line and initiate a team design
session.

John

Hello all,

I have Alibre Professional which entails me to the 8 million parts from Cadalog.com. Can I go directly to Cadalog.com for parts or do I have to retrieve them through Alibre?

Thank you,

Ethan

You should be able to go to cadalog.com and import from there. I know I was able to do that awhile back.

I am redoing my computer and want to add-on all that I can while I

add-on and get this running?

Email me at danbrinkman89@hotmail.com

Thanks, Dan Brinkman
