I use Snag-It. It will do all sorts of screen captures and you can also use it for rotating the part and making an avi file. I think it runs around $30.
I have been using Quickparts and Alibre for the past 3 years and they do a good job of quoting the parts quickly. All they require is an iges, step or stl file.
They also can quote you on specialized tooling to make the parts. Aluminum or flexible composite of some type.
Hi Folks,
When you export an assembly from Alibre as a step file, not Alibre stp, Solidworks will open the assembly but it will not look anything like it did in Alibre. If you have duplicate parts, only one of them will show up and the position they are in dependend upon their construction...
I have used Alibre for the last 4 1/2 years and I really like the program but I had to go to Solidworks for the simple reason that Alibre was to slow and bogged down on large complicated assemblies.
I see no difference in the learning curve for either Alibre or Solidworks except that Solidworks...
I create a new layer call ordinate. Then with that layer active, I draw a horizontal and vertical line through whatever point I want to make the datum. I do my dimensioning from there. Sometimes I go back and make the ordinate layer invisible.
Possible work for someone in Texas
Hi all,
I have been in contact with a gentleman in Texas somewhere outside of Dallas. He has an invention that he is in the process of patenting and wants someone to do the manufacturing drawings for him. It would also include some...
Configuration in drawing mode
I realize that everyone does not use the same dimension style as my company, but I would like to be able to set parameters for linear and radial dimensions individually. As it is now, if you set it for parallel inside, the linear...
If you mean millimeters, yes you can. Go to File_preferences and you will see a drop down for dimensional values and also for what you want angles to be shown as.
Drawing properties
Hi,
One of the things I need to be able to set is for the radial dimensions to read horizontal and the linear dimensions to read parallel inside the dimension line. The way it is now, when you set one, they all read that way and I...
I agree Gaspar, in Autocad you can highlight a number of drawings and hit plot. That would be a great addition to what Alibre already offers. Most of my assemblies are running upwards of 55 detail drawings and it does take a lot of time having to open each one in order to plot.
I have an ATI FireGL V3100 video card and I was having that problem, but I found that if I turned the team design toolbar on my display would do fine. I turn it off and and the modeling and drawing space goes bonkers.
Jim
I also am having problems but mine are not like any that I have read about in any of the posts. I am running an ATI FireGL V3100 video card and my problem is that if I turn off the team design toolbar the display goes to pot. I mean I am unable to do anything. Turn the toolbar back on and...
Layers
Hi,
For anyone that has used any cad program you know how many different layers you use. I, for one, would like to see an icon on the drawing sheet that I could use to change layers instead of having to go to File-properties-etc.

Using Alibre in a small office
Moyesboy,
We are a small Engineering Design firm with three seats of Alibre. We are for the most part very well satisfied. If you would like to correspond further on this you can contact me at jim@reynoldsddc.com.
Hatch through multiple parts
I had a simple assembly yesterday with just two parts. When I tried to use a 3D section, one of the parts went into the hide mode. In the Design Explorer it grayed out as when you hide parts. The parts sectioned fine when doing...
Nastran
Has anyone used the version of MSC Nastran included in Alibre and do you think it is worth the cost of upgrading from Pro to expert?
Thanks
Jim
